Why Grade 2 Titanium Tube?
Grade 2 (UNS R50400) is the most widely used commercially pure titanium alloy, offering an optimal balance of strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Unlike stainless steel or copper-nickel alloys, gr2 titanium tube resists pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater up to 120°C. It also withstands wet chlorine, oxidizing acids, and organic media. Each lot undergoes solution annealing in a controlled atmosphere followed by pickling to remove alpha case. Our in-house lab performs PMI, tensile, flattening, flaring, and ultrasonic testing. Applications
Grade 2 titanium tubes are almost immune to chloride ions, and the oxide film formed on the surface is not only corrosion resistant but also inhibits the adhesion of sludge, making them stand out in many harsh environments.
Heat Exchange and Condensation
In condensers cooled by seawater or brine, titanium tubes do not exhibit pitting or ammonia corrosion like copper alloys. Although their thermal conductivity is not high, the tube walls can be as thin as 0.5 mm, and combined with higher seawater flow velocities, the overall heat transfer coefficient is actually better over long-term operation.
Seawater Desalination
In multi-stage flash evaporation and reverse osmosis systems, titanium tubes can withstand concentrated hot brine below 120°C without producing copper ions that would degrade membrane elements. Replacing RO concentrate pipelines with titanium tubes extends system life, and the pipelines can also withstand dilute acid cleaning.
Marine and Marine Applications
Titanium tubes can be used long-term in seawater pipeline environments without coatings or cathodic protection. They also have strong erosion resistance, allowing flow velocities much higher than copper-nickel tubes, enabling thinner wall thicknesses and reducing system weight by nearly 40%.
Chemical Equipment
In applications involving wet chlorine gas cooling, chlor-alkali reactors, and other contact with chlorine-containing oxidizing media, titanium heating coils are an effective and lightweight solution, provided fluoride ion levels are well controlled.
